To be competitive at the provincial and national level, “Squash Ontario recommends an athlete play 50 competitive matches and 12 tournaments per year in order to progress throughout the stages” of long-term athletic development. Read more.

Through the ODSA Junior Prix Circuit, players have the opportunity to play approximately 24 competitive matches in six local one-day tournaments. Therefore, provincial/national level players should anticipate playing at least 6 out-of-town events over the course of the season to meet the minimum expectation of 50 competitive matches and 12 tournaments.

The local squash community generously donates funds, through the Squash Ontario Lee Hanebury Fund Read more. For the 2019-20 season, Squash Ontario is committed to matching these local donations (to a maximum of $5,000), effectively doubling the amount of financial support available for the development of qualifying junior squash players competing at the provincial and national level.

Since the amount of funding available is directly tied to the amount of local donations, the final amount available year over year can vary significantly. Consequently, the organizing committee cannot commit to a specific dollar amount to be awarded per player and event. Furthermore, the number of players applying for support varies year over year, and this also impacts the total amount of support available per player.

The following is the application and awards process for the Junior Squash season from September 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020.

To be eligible for support, players must meet the following criteria:

Each event will accrue to the player a certain number of sponsorship credits, depending on the event category. The dollar value of the credit is determined by dividing the total amount of funds available as at the end of the season (May 31st) by the total number of credits issued.

In addition, players competing at the highest level will be awarded a credit multiplier. At the time of the event, the player’s current provincial ranking within their age and gender category will be used to determine the multiplier factor:

Top Performance Multiplier

Ontario Ranking Multiplier
Players in the top 5 in Ontario1.5x Multiplier
Players in the top 15 in Ontario1.2x Multiplier
Players in the top 30 in Ontario1.1x Multiplier

Players are encouraged to accumulate credits throughout the season by selecting events, in consultation with their coaches, and in which they will be challenged but yet competitive.

Below are the credit allocations per event for the season beginning September 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020. The allocation of credit is strictly for events held outside the boundaries of the Ottawa District Squash Association. (The ODSA boundary is defined by the counties of Renfrew, Lanark, Carleton, Prescott, Russell, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. In Quebec, the Quebec administrative region of the Outaouais)
